iOS 18.3 Brings Changes to AI Notification Summaries and New Intelligent

Apple has officially rolled out iOS 18.3, introducing several updates to enhance the user experience on iPhones. Among the changes, the release temporarily disables AI notification summaries for news and entertainment apps. According to Apple’s release notes, this decision comes after feedback regarding inaccuracies in summarizing certain headlines, including one from the BBC. Users who have opted into the feature will be notified once it becomes available again.

This adjustment, initially observed during the iOS 18.3 beta phase, aims to refine the feature’s reliability. For users of devices equipped with Apple Intelligence—such as the iPhone 15 Pro or later, iPads and Macs with the Apple Silicon M1 chip or newer, and the latest iPad mini—the update also enables Apple Intelligence by default, marking a significant step forward in AI integration across Apple’s ecosystem.

iOS 18.3 introduces additional intelligent features to improve everyday tasks. One highlight is the new Visual Intelligence tool, which allows users to add events directly to their Calendar app by scanning posters or flyers. Another feature enhances the ability to identify plants and animals using the iPhone camera.

Meanwhile, macOS 15.3, also launching today, brings similar updates for notification summaries and adds support for Apple’s new Genmoji technology, further expanding the creative capabilities of Mac users.

In an effort to improve clarity, notification summaries in iOS 18.3 will now appear in italicized text, making them easier to distinguish from standard notifications. Additionally, users will find new settings to manage notification summaries directly from their lock screen, offering greater control over their notifications.

To download iOS 18.3, navigate to Settings > General > Software Update on your iPhone. This update continues Apple’s trend of integrating advanced AI capabilities into its software, while addressing user feedback to improve overall functionality.
