Microsoft has begun sending invitations for a special event celebrating its 50th anniversary alongside updates on its Copilot AI technology. Scheduled for April 4th at the company’s Redmond, Washington headquarters, the event coincides with the day Microsoft was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen.

The gathering will feature an exclusive employee-only celebration reflecting on Microsoft’s five decades of innovation. Additionally, the company plans to share insights into the future of its consumer-focused Copilot AI assistant. Attendees will include Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman, and a mix of past and present company leaders.

The event comes amid speculation that Microsoft is advancing its proprietary AI reasoning models, aiming to compete with OpenAI. Reports from The Information suggest that Suleyman is spearheading the development of in-house AI models, referred to as MAI, which could potentially replace OpenAI’s technology within Copilot.

With AI becoming central to Microsoft’s long-term strategy, there is growing anticipation that the company may use this event to showcase its latest advancements in AI model development. As Microsoft looks ahead to the next 50 years, Copilot and AI innovation are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping its future direction.
