Apple is exploring the integration of cameras into upcoming Apple Watch models to enhance their capabilities as AI-driven wearables. According to Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, the tech giant is actively considering equipping both its standard Series lineup and the rugged Ultra models with built-in cameras, with an expected release timeline set for 2027.
This ambitious move would enable the Apple Watch to leverage AI features such as Visual Intelligence, allowing users to receive real-time information simply by pointing their wrist at objects, people, or text in their environment.
Previously, Gurman revealed that Apple is also developing AirPods with embedded cameras designed to support similar AI-powered functionalities. His latest report suggests that these camera-equipped AirPods and Apple Watches are likely to debut around the same time.
The placement of these cameras may differ based on the watch model. While the standard Series watches could potentially feature a front-facing camera integrated within the display, the Ultra version is rumored to house its camera on the side of the device, possibly for enhanced durability and ease of use in rugged environments.
If these developments come to fruition, Apple could redefine the smartwatch landscape, merging AI-driven capabilities with cutting-edge wearable design.
