ChatGPT’s Image Generation Feature Now Free for All Users

🚀 OpenAI has officially opened the doors to its built-in image generation feature in ChatGPT for free users, marking a significant update in accessibility. Initially, CEO Sam Altman mentioned a delay in rolling out this feature to the free tier, citing unexpected popularity. However, over the weekend, the feature became available to all, eliminating the need to switch to OpenAI’s DALL-E generator for image creation.

💡 Previously exclusive to Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers, the tool now allows free users to generate images directly within ChatGPT. While Altman indicated a limit of three images per day for free accounts, some users report being restricted to just one. Additionally, there may be waiting periods between generations, ranging from a few minutes to several hours.

🎨 A notable trend has emerged with users creating Ghibli-style images from real-life photos. By uploading a photo and instructing ChatGPT in natural language, users can transform their images into artworks reminiscent of Studio Ghibli’s iconic style. This has sparked discussions on the ethical use of copyrighted materials in AI training datasets, recalling Hayao Miyazaki’s critical stance on AI-generated art as an ‘insult to life itself.’

⚠️ Altman has acknowledged that the tool may display erratic behavior and could deny some generation requests that should technically be permissible. OpenAI is actively addressing these issues. The company also emphasized its commitment to enforcing guidelines against inappropriate content, though specifics on enforcement actions remain undisclosed.
