Strava has made a strategic move by acquiring Runna, a UK-based app that offers personalized running plans and coaching. The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, aligns with Strava’s observation of a significant increase in running interest, with 43% of its members aiming for a major race or event this year. Strava CEO Michael Martin highlighted the synergy between Strava’s platform and Runna’s mission to provide tailored running plans, emphasizing the timing as ideal given Strava’s recent growth and innovation.
Runna, established in 2022, has quickly expanded to a team of 180 employees, serving users in 180 countries. Despite the acquisition, both apps will continue to operate independently for now, with plans to bolster Runna’s team and resources. This acquisition underscores Strava’s commitment to enhancing user value through complementary services.
