OpenAI Plans to Integrate Sora Into ChatGPT While Expanding Its AI Video Capabilities

Sora AI video generator expansion and integration with ChatGPT

After launching in the United States last December and expanding to several European countries earlier this week, OpenAI’s AI-powered video generation tool, Sora, is rapidly broadening its reach. The long-term vision? Seamlessly integrating Sora into the ChatGPT interface.

According to insights shared in an internal company meeting and reported by TechCrunch, OpenAI is actively considering embedding Sora within ChatGPT. Currently, Sora operates as a standalone web-based platform, separate from ChatGPT’s web and mobile applications—though those already include image-generation features.

Rohan Sahai, the product lead for Sora, reportedly confirmed OpenAI’s ambition to extend the AI video tool’s accessibility and enhance its features. However, even if Sora becomes available within ChatGPT, it is expected to retain its standalone version as well.

Sahai acknowledged that the iteration of Sora inside ChatGPT may not offer the full feature set available on the web-based version. One of the primary reasons for the delayed integration is OpenAI’s intent to maintain a streamlined ChatGPT interface without excessive complexity.

There’s no official timeline for when Sora might appear in ChatGPT, but the move could serve as an incentive for more users to subscribe to OpenAI’s premium plans. Currently, access to Sora is restricted to ChatGPT Plus subscribers ($20 per month) and ChatGPT Pro users ($200 per month).

Subscription tiers dictate limits on video resolution and the number of videos a user can generate. Each subscriber receives a set number of monthly credits, with higher-quality and longer videos consuming more of these credits.

Since ChatGPT and Sora share the same user login credentials, the foundation for integration is already in place. However, OpenAI faces the challenge of incorporating elements like Sora’s curated video showcase into ChatGPT’s existing layout.

Additionally, Sahai mentioned that OpenAI is working on an upgraded version of Sora’s AI model, promising improved video generation capabilities. The company is also developing an advanced image generator powered by Sora, designed to produce more photorealistic visuals.

As OpenAI continues refining its AI-driven creative tools, Sora’s integration into ChatGPT could mark a major step forward in making generative video technology more accessible and versatile.
